We offer specialist neuro physiotherapy assessments and treatment.  We put you at the heart of what we do and work towards neuro rehabilitation goals that matter to you. Your treatment plan may consist of hands on treatment,  gait and balance rehabilitation, advice on aids, management of muscle stiffness or spasticity, strengthening and cardiovascular exercise, Pilates based movement, splints or electrical stimulation.

Neuro Physio Hitchin

Exercise and physical activity

There is a huge amount of evidence on the benefits of physical activity on both general and mental health. We understand that your neurological condition may make exercise and physical activity challenging. We're here to help you find ways to get active and enjoy moving again.

Rehabilitation after a hospital stay

If you have been in hospital, neuro physiotherapy at home can help facilitate a smooth transition. We can complete an assessment of your functional abilities in your own home and, in collaboration with you, develop a plan to maximise your independence and recovery.

Neuro Physio Hitchin FES

Functional Electrical Stimulation and splints

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) consists of surface electrical stimulation and is used to activate weak muscles in time with your walking pattern.  It is typically used to help foot drop but stimulation can be applied to other muscle groups to further improve walking. FES is not suitable for everyone and if this is the case we can recommend alternative orthotics (splints) to help.  FES and orthotics can reduce tripping and falls, improve, walking speed, endurance and confidence.

Neuro Physio Hitchin Electrical Stimulation

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) can be applied to weak and stiff muscles in people with neurological conditions in order to strengthen and/or stretch muscles. For some people it may help with post stroke shoulder subluxation to improve shoulder positioning and pain.

Neuro Physio Hitchin balance and Vestibular Rehab

Balance rehabilitation

Neurological conditions can result in a loss of balance and stability in day to day activities. This can dramatically impact on a persons mobility, confidence and increase the risk of falling. Neuro physiotherapy can improve your body awareness, mobility and help minimise vestibular problems.

Neuro Physio Hitchin carers training

Training for carers

We offer our neuro physiotherapy expertise to train family and carers to support you in your neuro rehabilitation journey. We are also able to visit nursing or residential homes to provide specialist  neuro physiotherapy advice, training, education and treatment.

Neuro Physio Hitchin stretches

Stretching, positioning and exercise programmes

In order to manage your neurological condition in the long-term you may benefit from advice on a programme for exercise, stretching, positioning and/or seating.  We can help establish these at home or a local gym. We are able to provide these to continue with independently or with support.

Neuro Physiotherapy reports

Assessment, reports, advice

We are able to provide written reports and make recommendations for referral to specialist neurological services if necessary. With your consent, we are able to liaise with other professionals involved in your care.
